New Life Stories album project

August 24th, 2009

It’s an honor and a pleasure for me to announce my involvement in a new project: the sleeve album design and illustration for “Life Stories” the forthcoming album by Kimara Sajn.

I’ve known Kimara for the last three years, since my friend Brian Burman introduced me to him. Ever since he sent me some CDs with his music, I realized that I had met a very talented, unique and sensitive artist and I secretly wished that I could some time get to work with him. This summer, I got an invitation from him to join his new project with my illustrations. Kimara told me that he was originally looking at old European Folk Tales and children’s books for the visual concept and then he remembered about my work. He said he wanted something magical and surreal so he thought he should ask me to join. So I’m in.

Kimara Sajn has self-produced and self-released numerous music works throughout the Precognitive Records label along with his wife B. Sue Johnson. He plays drums, percussion, keyboards, bass, tapes, and vocals and B. Sue plays percussion, tapes and vocals. They’re the kind of creative couple that I admire and like to learn from.

This is the sort of underground music type of project and I love to be involved on it. Located in Seattle area, Kimara and Sue have released several experimental projects oriented to progressive and avant-garde music under the logo of Polythene Pet/+1, including the collaboration of numerous fine musicians. One of them, my friend Brian Burman (who produces music for dance and music films in Zürich) he arranged one of the instrumental pieces in the album and I can tell you this: is one of the most delicate and beautiful music I’ve heard in a long time. When my wife and I first listened to it she said to me: “This looks like if it was made for your illustrations” and I replied: “Is just about the kind of music that I love!“.

This new project, “Life Stories”, it’s a very special one in their career for personal reasons. It’s inspired by their grandchildren and even has one song dedicated to their newest baby granddaughter. It’s such an honor for me to be part of it!

During the following weeks, I would like to share with you some of the working stuff that I produce for “Life Stories”. The album will be released in December but we hope to see the sleeve album finished during the fall. I hope you enjoy the journey with me.
