In my daily life, between kooky pet and kooky pet, I actually draw other kinds of things. Most of these works are custom illustrations, graphics and logos for commercial web projects that I develop along with my wife Naomi at our design firm Intuitive Designs.
Naomi and I agree that this project for Memory Keepers was really fun for both of us to do. The business it’s all about preserving old photos into digital format and they travel right to the customer’s house to scan the photos rather than having clients send in their precious photos by mail. It would have been really neat for me to have them in Spain a couple of years ago when I went through the tedious duty of scanning hundreds of family pictures, just before Naomi and I moved to the US.

The project included several illustrations and logo design. The client and us decided to have a slight retro touch design-wise to work with the idea of using old photos, but not making it look antiquated. So it was really amusing for me to step into one of my favorite styles: vintage cartoon.
I’m a big fan of this kind of illustration and for this particular project I got the inspiration from a large collection of old cartoony magazine ads that I keep collecting.
Not all the commercial illustration projects are as fun as this one, so when something like this falls on my lap I feel just like a kid in a candy store!
