The Crow Ow by Koldo Barroso, 2008
With Halloween almost here, I thought it would be interesting to show you this sketch about a mysterious creature called the Crow Ow. I actually drew this a few months ago and I was later surprised to find so many crows all around in my new location in Bellingham. They remind me a lot of the days I used to live in England.
But this is not a regular crow. The Crow Ow is one of the most dangerous creatures you may encounter in your life! They are spirits of ancient wizards who got trapped in this body shape, half human and half crow.
During the nights, the Crow Ows stare at people’s dreams through the windows and wait patiently for an embarrassing or a very personal secretive dream to pop out. For when they find one, they take it away from you and rush to put it in someone else’s dream. And believe me: it’s always the person you would like the less to know about your dream.
The Crow Ows mess with friendships, love affairs, family business, co-workers… and they really stand for trouble. If one day your best friend comes to you all annoyed because she found out that the clay vase she did for you never broke and you actually trashed thinking it was the stinkiest thing you’ve ever seen… then you better watch out from the Crow Ow. He might be staring you in the cold of the darkness.

Ok – he sounds most unpleasant. (Can you tell them apart from the more common crows we have frequenting the area here?)
You’ve lived all over, haven’t you!?
Do these diabolical birds work in tandem with the Mesmerizer? If so, we really should do something about these guys…soon!
@ Tara- You can spot them when they talk, the sound like a cross between a crow and a Welsh barrel maker. I have been in Wales but I haven’t tried cold pork pie!
@ Dylan- Good question! Yes, they do, but only for their own behalf, they trade dreams with him but they’re stingy and never give away the embarrassing ones.
Ahhhh, this explains a lot….especially that middle of the night re-occurrence of waking up with heart beating so hard it sounds like the beating of desperate wings against a window….I think I better hang an extra dream catcher, just in case!
Hey Sue! You may be wrong. I think that was that cheese cake ice-cream you had just before you went to bed.
Amazing piece Koldo! one of my favorites.
Thanks Eric! Must be the “comicesque” style
